Oral Presentation
Development Progress of a Waveguide-Type Hot Electron Bolometer Mixer at 2-THz Band
Presenter: Yoshihisa Irimajiri (NICT)
We are developing a waveguide-type hot electron bolometer mixer at 2-THz band. The expected applications are high-speed, large-capacity wireless communications (Beyond 5 G) and astronomical/ atmospheric observations. Based on the design and simulation made by ASIAA, NICT fabricated a membrane-type HEBM device and a waveguide mixer mount. The mount has a diagonal horn and a WR-05.1 (1.4-2.2 THz) waveguide with a size of 65 μm x 130 μm. The membrane device bridge with a size of W55 μmxL820 μmxt1 μm was installed into a groove with a width of 65 μm using a 3D-manipulator and a microscope. A beat-note was successfully detected using a 2 THz AMC source as a LO and a UTC-PD combined with an optical-comb as a RF. We are also developing a corrugated horn. Fabrication of small teeth structure is a challenging task. I will show the latest results of the mixer performance in the conference.
