Development of 12-18 GHz YIG Synthesizer for Korean VLBI Network W-band Receiver

Author(s):

Presenter: Do-Heung Je (KASI)

KASI has developed a 12-18 GHz band YIG Synthesizer using 1400 MHz and 100 MHz reference signal for KVN(Korean VLBI Network) 85-115 GHz receivers. The frequency resolution is 100/200 MHz. The phase noise follows the 1400 MHz reference phase noise.
The configuration of the synthesizer is very simple. We used a serial driver supplied by the YIG manufacturer for coarse tune. The FM tune is done by a NLTL comb generator, a mixer, and a PLL(Phase Locked Loop) circuit which includes a few amplifiers, a frequency divider, a phase detector, and a Loop filter.
The phase stability with respect to temperature  is about 1 deg/oC. Three YIG synthesizers were assembled and installed in KVN 3 telescopes in 2021.
