XRISM's High-Resolution Spectroscopy: Galaxy Cluster Dynamics
Presenter: Naomi Ota (Nara Women's University)
XRISM, launched in 2023, is transforming our view of galaxy cluster dynamics through high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy with Resolve. This talk presents results from the Performance Verification phase, with A2029 as a representative case. Spatially resolved measurements of gas motions and turbulence reveal complex velocity structures and enable direct estimates of non-thermal pressure. These findings improve our understanding of hydrostatic mass biases and intracluster medium (ICM) dynamics. I will also briefly discuss comparisons with other clusters and recent cosmological simulations, which place the observations in a broader theoretical context. XRISM marks the beginning of a new era in precision studies of hot plasma in large-scale cosmic structures.
