The distribution of shock and splashback in Massive Clusters
Presenter: Siddhant Sen (Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER ) Pune)
Recent advances in simulations and observations of galaxy clusters indicate the existence of a physical outer boundary for massive cluster-size dark matter halos. In this work, we investigate the outer boundaries of both dark matter and gas around such halos by analyzing a sample of massive clusters from the TNG-Clusters zoom-in hydrodynamical cosmological simulations. We develop an algorithm to measure both the directional shock radius and the directional splashback radius for these clusters. By examining the merger histories of the clusters, we study the offsets between the shock and splashback radii, shedding light on the interplay between dark matter dynamics and baryonic processes at the halo outskirts.
