Travel Guide

  1. Dinning Places
    You can easily find restaurants everywhere in the Taipei city. Prices vary but one meal should cost less than 10 USD in many restaurants. [Lunch boxes will be provided for the participants during workshop.]
  2. Craft Beer Bars
    Satoki made a map of nearby (within 30 min by walk) craft beer bars from our institute and the Howard Hotel. If you are looking for the beer drinking places, please use this map (note: strong bias toward Satoki's favorite bars).
  3. PRC Passport Holders: it takes 3 to 4 months to apply for travel permits (來台入出境許可證). Please register and complete the payment as early as possible and follow the instructions to apply for Travel Permit before Jul. 15.
  4. Visa-Exempt Entry & e-Visas
    • 30-day visa-free privileges are afforded to citizens of more than 30 countries. Please visit Regulation of Visa-Exempt Entry and Landing Visas for Foreigners.
    • Participants of other nationalities need to apply for a visa. For a faster visa application to attend this international conference, getting an electronic visa (eVisa) on-line is recommended instead of a regular visitor visa. To provide you with the required number (Ecode) for the eVisa application, please email (sychiu   _replace_to_@_ a copy of your passport or a sharable link by Aug. 15 with the subject: "eVISA application for YOUR NAME". We will provide you with the needed information about one month after the registration deadline, after which you can apply for an eVisa no later than 7 working days before coming to Taiwan.
    • Please note that your passport's expiration date should be at least six months after your trip.
  5. International Airports
    • Most international flights land in Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (Airport Code: TPE) which is situated 40km south of Taipei. The metro system “airport line” connects the TPE airport and Taipei main station and will take less than 1 hour.
    • Taipei Songshan Airport (Airport code: TSA) serves domestic flights and short-haul services to mainland China and Japan-Haneda(HND)/Korea-Gimpo(GMP). It's close to the Taipei city center.
    • Please refer to ASIAA website for transportation from international airports to Taipei downtown.
  6. Transportation from the Taipei main station to The Great Roots Resort (provided by the LOC )
    The shuttle bus service is provided by the LOC free of charge, listed below. To reserve the shuttle bus service, please submit the Hotel/Shuttle Reservation Form before August 15, 2023.
    Oct 29 (Sun):
    leave from Taipei main station at around 11 am and 1 pm (departure time might be adjusted; lunch is not offered by the LOC on 10/29).
    Oct 31 (Tue):
    leave from the resort to the Howard International House at night (departure time TBD).
  7. Individual transportation to the Great Roots Resort
    • By taxi (NTD 1000~1500) -
      Approximate travel time from airport, downtown Taipei, Taipei main station: ~ 1 hour.

      The resort also offers shuttle bus. Please check this website here for more information.
  8. Currency
    The New Taiwan Dollar (NT$) is the currency used in Taiwan. It is recommended to travel with cash. It is also possible to withdraw NT$ from ATM in Taiwan with foreign bank card. Please check with your bank about this service in advance.
