Polarization in the GG Tau A system revealed with ALMA

With the improved angular resolution and sensitivities of the mm and submm polarization observations from ALMA, it has been found that the polarization in dense environments like the circumstellar disks is more likely due to self-scattering of dust particles. This open a new channel for us to probe the dust properties in disks. In this talk, I will report the ALMA polarization observations at 3 and 0.9 mm toward the GG Tau A system. We found peculiar polarization properties in GG Tau A. It seems to suggest that there is no single mechanism that could explain the detected polarization simultaneously.
