Oral Presentation

Tracing magnetic fields in the galaxy using the Velocity Gradient Technique

Author(s): Diego F. Gonzalez-Casanova; Alex Lazarian

Presenter: Diego Gonzalez-casanova (University of Wisconsin - Madison)

The Velocity Gradient Technique (VGT) was developed by Gonzalez-Casanova & Lazarian (2017) to measure the plane in the sky direction and intensity only using spectroscopic data. Here we present how we can use the VGT to map the 3D structure of the magnetic field in the galaxy using HI observation. We further explore the use of the VGT in molecular clouds where self absorption is important to constrain the environment, in terms of magnetic field intensity and direction, of star formation.
