Oral Presentation

Does Scattering Contaminate Magnetic Field Observations in Star Forming Regions?

Author(s): Rao, Ramprasad (ASIAA)

Presenter: Ramprasad Rao (ASIAA Hawaii)

Observations of polarized dust emission are used to map magnetic fields in star forming regions. However, recent observational and theoretical work indicates that this may not be true globally. Under certain conditions, polarization arising from scattering processes may contaminate or even dominate the observed polarization. In this work, we will present the effects seen in one such region IRAS 16293B.
