How to get to Green Island
Step 1: Getting to Taitung City
1. Fly via Taipei (most convenient)
Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) ➔ Taipei Songshan International Airport (TSA) ➔ Taitung Airport (TTT)
- Most international flights arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), located about 40 km west of Taipei. The Airport MRT connects TPE to Taipei Main Station in under one hour.
- Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA) mainly serves domestic flights, as well as short-haul international routes to mainland China (Shanghai, Fuzhou, Xiamen, etc.), Tokyo Haneda (HND), and Seoul Gimpo (GMP). Located near central Taipei, it is the recommended airport for domestic connections.
① If you arrive at Taoyuan Airport (TPE), travel to Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA)
- By MRT, airport bus, or taxi
- Travel time: 1 ~ 1.5 hours
② Take a domestic flight from Songshan to Taitung Airport
- 2–5 flights daily
- Flight time: 1 hour 5 minutes
- Rough price: NTD 2500 (one way)
- We recommend booking domestic flights in advance, especially on weekends or holidays.
③ From Taitung Airport, take a taxi to Taitung City or Taitung Fugang Harbor
- Travel time: ~15–25 minutes
- Rough price: NTD 250–450
Note: This is the most convenient option if flights are available.
2. Train from Taoyuan Airport or Taipei (most common)
Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) ➔ Taipei Main Station ➔ Taitung Station
① From Taoyuan Airport, take the Airport MRT to Taipei Main Station
- Travel time: 45–60 minutes
② From Taipei Main Station, take a TRA express train to Taitung
- Recommended trains: Tze-Chiang Limited Express or Puyuma Express
- Travel time: ~4.5 hours
- Ticket price: NTD 936 (one way)
- Train ticket sales open one month in advance at Taiwan Railway Website
Tickets often sell out, so early booking is highly recommended.

- Please check the train schedule and plan your trip in advance.
③ Trains arrive at Taitung Railway Station, take a taxi to the city center or Taitung Fugang Harbor
- Travel time: ~15 minutes
- Rough price: NTD 280–370
Note: This option is reliable and easy, but longer, but longer. We recommend taking a train before 8 AM on April 8 from Taipei Main Station, or arriving in Taitung on April 7 or earlier.
3. Via Kaohsiung
Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) ➔ Taitung Station
① From Kaohsiung Airport, take MRT or taxi to Kaohsiung Railway Station
- Travel time: ~30 minutes
② Take a TRA express train to Taitung
- Travel time: 2–3 hours
- Trains run every 1 to 1.5 hours
- Ticket price: NTD 312–485 (one way)
- Train ticket sales open one month in advance at Taiwan Railway Website. Tickets often sell out, so early booking is highly recommended.

- Please check the train schedule and plan your trip in advance.
③ Trains arrive at Taitung Railway Station, ~10 minutes by taxi to the city center or Taitung Fugang Harbor
- Travel time: ~15 minutes
- Rough price: NTD 280–370
Note: This is a good alternative if flying into southern Taiwan.
Step 2: Ferry from Taitung to Green Island
1. Ferry (recommended)
- Ferries operate between Taitung (Fugang) Harbor and Green Island (Lyudao) Nanliao Harbor.
- Ferry travel time is about 50 minutes.
- Ticket price: NTD 1120 (round)
- Participants are required to purchase ferry tickets in advance.
- Cancellations made up to 3 days before departure incur a 15% fee. No refunds are available after that. Please check each website for detailed regulations.
- The organizing committee will accompany participants on designated ferries for:
- Taitung ➔ Green Island: 13:30 on April 8
- Green Island ➔ Taitung: 14:30 on April 11, April 12
- On April 8, participants will gather at Taitung Fugang Harbor by 13:00 and take the 13:30 ferry together.
- From Lyudao Harbor, shuttle vans will be arranged to transport participants to the venue.
Note: Ferry schedules may be affected by weather. We strongly recommend booking transportation early.
2. Short Flight from Taitung Airport to Green Island
- Instead of taking the ferry, you can take a short flight.
- 3–4 flights daily
- Flight time: ~15 minutes
- Fight schedule: Link
- Select “Green Island (Lyudao)” and click “Submit.”
- The schedule is available in Chinese only, so please use Chrome translation.
- Ticket price: NTD 1070 (one way)
Transportation in Green Island
Renting a scooter in Green Island (recommended, allows exploration of the island)
- One day (24 hours): NTD 400–600, depending on model and age of the scooter. Discounts may apply for multi-day rentals.
- Please bring your driver’s license. International licenses that specify permission to ride scooters are accepted. If you don’t have one, you can borrow an electric bicycle.
- Green Island is small (about 20 km to circle), and scooters are easier to park and get around than cars.
- Most rental shops are near Green Island Harbor
- Bicycle rental
- Available at a few shops for short trips or casual riding. Many guesthouses offer bicycles, but it’s recommended to ask in advance.
- NTD 200–300 (~ NTD 500 for electric bicycle)
- Car rental: NTD 2000–3000 for one day
Weather in Taitung City & Green Island (early April)
- Temperature: Warm and pleasant
- Taitung City: 26–28°C (day), 20–22°C (night)
- Green Island: 24–27°C (day), mild evenings
- Rain: Moderate rainfall possible; occasional showers are normal
- Humidity: Fairly humid, typical of spring in eastern Taiwan
- Sunlight: A mix of sun and clouds; generally comfortable days
- Sea temperature: Around 26°C (79°F) — suitable for water activities
- Tip: Bring light clothing, a rain jacket or umbrella, and sun protection for daytime outdoor activities.
Currency
The New Taiwan Dollar (NT$) is the currency used in Taiwan. It is recommended to travel with cash. It is also possible to withdraw NT$ from ATM in Taiwan with foreign bank card. Please check with your bank about this service in advance.
As it may be difficult to withdraw cash on Green Island, please prepare enough cash before arrival.
