NA-TW joint ALMA workshop 2025
New ALMA windows on the universe - Band 1 and the future WSU

June 16(Mon)-19(Thu), 2025
ASIAA Auditorium, Taipei, Taiwan

Scientific rationale

We are pleased to announce the third North America-Taiwan joint ALMA Science Workshop, happening June 16-20, 2025 in Taipei. This event will be an opportunity to present new ALMA scientific results in all scientific topics, with specific highlights on Band 1 and Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU) science opportunities.

The ALMA Band 1 receiver was developed and led by East Asia as a collaboration of ASIAA, NAOJ, NRAO, NRC and the Universidad de Chile. It provides access to the 35-51 GHz frequency window. The Band 1 receivers have served on the 12-m array for scientific observations since 2023, and the first scientific results are now coming out.

The ALMA Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU) is a major initiative dramatically increasing ALMA' observational capabilities, by upgrading and replacing nearly all hardware elements of the observatory. The entire ALMA partnership is contributing to the success of the WSU, with planned completion of core elements by the end of this decade.

This workshop provides an opportunity to share the frontier scientific results with the goals of demonstrating the usage of Band 1 and of demonstrating the impact of the WSU in the near future. Participants are encouraged to lead or sign up for splinter sessions, which are aimed to boost collaborations or dedicated to solving specific topics of interest.
