Zooming in on Star Formation with ALMA
Presenter: Sarah Sadavoy (Queen's University)
The field of star formation is rapidly changing with the high sensitivity, high resolution capabilities of ALMA. We are now able to probe the physical and chemical environments around young stars, capture polarized light and magnetic fields, resolve circumstellar disk substructure, and disentangle clustered regions in more distant high-mass clouds with unprecedented detail across multiple wavelengths. In this presentation, I will highlight some of these ground breaking results, focusing on the scales of cores to the scales of disks as observed by ALMA. I will also discuss the difficulties and open questions that could be solved by future prospects with wide-band sensitivity upgrades.
