Oral Presentation

Total Power GPU Spectrometer (TPGS) for the ALMA Total Power Array

Presenter: Jongsoo Kim (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute)

The Total Power GPU Spectrometer (TPGS) is an upgrade to the current ACA Spectrometer and is part of the ALMA Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU) program. The TPGS will process 40 Gsps digitized samples per polarization per sideband from the four TP antennas and produce dual and full polarization products. It will support a maximum observing bandwidth of 32 GHz per polarization with a channel width of 13.5 kHz. For finer resolution, zoom modes will allow the channel width to be refined to 0.844 kHz. The TPGS will also improve pointing, focus, and delay for the TP array by providing cross-correlation products with optimized bandwidth and spectral resolution. After completing the Conceptual Design Review (CoDR) and Subsystem Requirements Review (SRR) in November 2024, the project has now entered the Preliminary Design Phase. This presentation introduces the TPGS subsystem, describing its main design, capabilities, and project management plan.
