Oral Presentation
The origin of the (resolved) star-forming main sequence
Presenter: Lihwai Lin (ASIAA)
The tight correlation between the star formation rate and the stellar mass of galaxies, known as the "star-forming main sequene", has been widely studied and used for constraining the galaxy evolution models in the last decade. The origin of this relationship, however, is not well understood. To address this issue, we study the molecular gas content of 14 MaNGA- selected star forming galaxies using ALMA CO(1-0) observations. In this talk, I'll show that the main sequence is not fundamental but rather a natural consequence of the other two scaling relations.
