The Molecular Gas Kinematics of HI Monsters
Presenter: Dawoon Kim (Yonsei University)
The HI monsters are local HI-rich galaxies (z<0.08), which were identified by the ALFALFA survey. Most HI monsters appear to be normal spirals but with a much larger cool gas reservoir. Regarding their relatively low star formation activity for given cool gas fraction, one hypothesis is that the gas in monsters might be too turbulent to form stars as normal spirals. In order to verify this, we have been studying the molecular gas kinematics of 10 HI monsters using the ALMA 12CO (1-0) data. In this work, we present the results and discuss the implications.
