Oral Presentation
A Theoretical and Simulation Study of the Generation and Expansion of Ion-Electron-Scale Electromagnetic Waves in a Magnetized Plasma
Presenter: Ling-Hsiao Lyu (National Central University)
Broadband electromagnetic waves in the ion-electron scales are commonly observed in the inner magnetosphere. In this study, we first examine the expansion of the ion-electron-scale electromagnetic waves theoretically based on their group-velocity distribution. We then simulate wave expansion with initial disturbances generated by different mechanisms and try to explain our simulation results based on the group-velocity distribution at different wavelengths and different frequencies. Finally, we compare our simulation results with the dynamic spectra of the waves observed in the inner magnetosphere. Our results will help us understand the origins and the propagating effects of the waves observed in the inner magnetosphere.
