Invited Presentation
Chemical diagnostics in external galaxies
Presenter: Nanase Harada (ASIAA)
Compositions of various molecular tracers can tell us the properties of
star-forming clouds. Although individual star-forming regions of nearby galaxies
still cannot be resolved, GMC-scale observations of ALMA has started to show
different chemical compositions within a galaxy. In my talk, I will show a few examples
M83 and NGC 3256. In M83, the chemistry tells how the gas kinematics might promote
the star formation at the nuclear region of the galaxy. On the other hand, the chemistry
in NGC 3256 shows distinct features in outflows, one of the important mechanisms of
feedback to prevent star formation.
