Protoplanetary disks: did ALMA reached our expectations ?

Author(s):

Presenter: Stephane Guilloteau (LAB - CNRS - U.Bordeaux)

Understanding the birth of planetary systems through the study of protoplanetary disks was one of the two main science drivers of ALMA. It imposed a number of design constraints, such as high spectral resolution, sensitivity, long baselines, image quality, etc... I will show how the initial results from the first years of operation have lead to major changes in our views on protoplanetary disks on many aspects: structure, gas to dust ratio, chemical composition, dust properties, polarisation (but no magnetic field yet), turbulence. Possible improvements will be suggested.
