Task Description and Goals

NOTE: This is a software development project aiming for boosting science productivity in the ALMA-WSU era.

The ALMA Wideband Sensitivity Upgrade (WSU; https://www.almaobservatory.org/en/scientists/alma-2030-wsu/wsu-program/) represents a significant step forward in astronomical data acquisition, generating image cubes that can reach sizes of several terabytes (TBs). With such massive datasets, it becomes increasingly challenging to efficiently explore and contextualize the information they contain.

This summer project focuses on addressing these challenges by investigating and developing efficient methods for enabling quick previews of these large image cubes through a user-friendly interface. The project will involve exploring innovative data visualization techniques and strategies to manage data-intensive workflows. The selected candidate will gain valuable experience in handling and processing large-scale datasets, designing responsive and intuitive user interfaces, and applying advanced visualization methodologies.

By the end of the project, the participant will have developed a comprehensive understanding of the tools and technologies required to navigate the complexities of modern astronomical data, contributing to the broader goals of ALMA's WSU program.
