A Kepler-LAMOST Study of Stellar Gyrochronology
Presenter: Wing-Huen Ip (Institute of Astronomy, National Central University)
We compared the LAMOST spectral properties of the solar-type stars and M dwarfs with the Kepler light curves. We found that there is a discontinuity in the flare activity at rotation periods of about 10 days in agreement with previous results. An unexpected result is that some late-type M dwarfs exhibited very strong flare activities with the peak fluxes more than 10 times the corresponding stellar luminosity. This effect might have important influence on the atmospheres and putative biospheres of habitable exoplanets.
