SCUBA-2 Ultra Deep Imaging EAO Survey (STUDIES): Counterpart Identification of Submillimeter Galaxies in the COSMOS Field
Presenter: Zhen-Kai Gao (ASIAA)
Identifying 450-µm source counterparts is traditionally resource-intensive. Using the confusion-limited STUDIES-COSMOS 450-µm map, we first localized 479 sources using high-resolution ALMA and VLA catalogs. By pinpointing their JWST NIRCam counterparts, we established a refined sample revealing that 450-µm-selected SMGs occupy a significantly bluer and brighter $F150W$-$F444W$ vs. $F444W$ parameter space than 850-µm populations. We propose a revised selection criterion leveraging only these two NIRCam bands. This method achieves a $(95.2\pm12.6)\%$ recall with $(90.9\pm12.3)\%$ precision, offering a high-efficiency, cost-effective alternative to expensive interferometric follow-up. Our streamlined approach enables large-scale SMG identification where multi-wavelength interferometry is unavailable. We also investigate the multi-wavelength properties of these counterparts and their implications for SMG populations.
