Learning from the stellar continua of galaxies: progress and initial results of the PFS SSP GE ‘low-z’ project
Presenter: Po-Feng Wu (National Taiwan University)
The “continuum-selected” part of the PFS GE survey aims to obtain large samples of magnitude and redshift-selected galaxies and probe the stellar continua of galaxies approaching to the cosmic noon. In the first year, the science verification phase, the continuum-selected sample consists of 2 parts. The first part is color-selected galaxies using multiple colors from u to near IR bands. We aim to cover the color space that was largely missed by previous spectroscopic observations and to calibrate the photometric redshifts. The second part is magnitude-selected, 8-hr long exposure sample, in order to verify the SNR of deep integration. I will present the strategy for the science verification observation and temporary results, which will guide the survey later on.
