Dissecting the cosmic web with caustics

I will present my recent developments in the study of the caustic skeleton of the cosmic web. By tracing the phase-space structure of the dark matter sheet, I identify the relevant caustics and illustrate their role in the cosmic web. These caustics can be used to study the complexity of the late-time universe in a framework resembling calculations in stochastic field theory. In my talk, I will present a non-linear extension of constrained Gaussian random field theory, that allows us to study the characteristic properties of the different features of the cosmic web by dissecting its various elements. With these initial conditions, we can systematically study the properties and interplay of the elements of the cosmic web and their influence on the embedded galaxies in novel ways.
