VIPA spectrograph: high-resolution, multi-mode fiber fed and broadband

Virtually Imaged Phased Array (VIPA) is an excellent dispersion element for high resolution spectrograph. The VIPA spectroscopy and spectrographs developed in my group will be presented. The VIPA spectrograph possesses a resolution > 500,000 and a spectral width >100 nm. We also find that VIPA has different dispersion characteristics compared with grating, for example, the spectral resolution of a VIPA spectrograph is insensitive to the size of input fiber diameter. The VIPA spectrograph shows a broad promising applications in astronomy, biomedical science and so on.
