Digital manufacturing technology for large-aperture optical systems

In order to improve the optical system performance, the aperture of the optical system such as astronomical observation has gradually increased, and the surface of the space optical system has been transitioned from a high-order off-axis aspherical to a free-form surface, which increases the manufacturing difficulty. To solve these problems, our company has developed a digital manufacturing process route of "digital grinding + digital polishing of robotic arm + flexible support system".
In the grinding process, we have developed technologies such as DMG five-axis complex surface grinding and inclined axis grinding based on universal three-axis milling machine. These Digital technologies can grind the aspherical surfaces to PV10~20um without compensation.
In the polishing Process, the double-rotor polishing system based on ABB manipulator arm has been developed, with the process control software, an efficient and high-precision digital polishing technology has been formed, which can polish the aspheric surface of Ø1.5m to λ/50 efficiently.
In terms of mirror support mechanism, the optimization algorithm of support parameters has been developed, the flexible support mechanism has been developed, and the digital adjustment technology has been studied, these technologies have significantly improved the reliability and stability of the optical system.
The above technologies solve the problems of digital design, manufacturing and assembly in the large-aperture optical systems manufacturing process, and have been applied in large-aperture telescopes, standard inspection mirrors, greatly improving production efficiency and producing significant economic and social benefits.
