Following the hierarchical structure formation scenario, galaxy clusters are expected to be actively assembling today, and thus have a wide range of dynamical states. The various dynamical states of the cluster are known to leave traces in galaxies and matters of clusters, thus we have been estimating the cluster’s dynamical state from that traces. However, there is no consensus for a clear classification of the dynamical state, yet. Therefore, we attempted to derive new and improved recipes for classifying the dynamical state of observed clusters using cosmological simulations, the N-cluster simulations. Used dynamical indicators were calculated as directly applicable versions for the observational data. We found the best recipes for each merger stage (entire, recent, ancient) by combining two to four dynamical indicators, and using different angles of parameter space with the rotation matrix method. Besides, we tried to quantify the success of the new method by defining the success rate and overlap percentage. Finally, we tested our recipe using observational cluster catalog data, and our best recipes seem working well with some caveats.
