Statistical study of RQGs in preparation for Subaru/PFS survey
Presenter: Zhiying Mao (Tohoku University)
In this work, we focus on recently quenched galaxies (RQGs), a population shortly after quenching, to study the physical scenario of galaxy quenching. A statistical sample is necessary to see how mass and environment affect quenching. However, the rarity of RQGs has hampered statistical spectroscopic study. As a pilot work, we conduct a statistical photometric analysis of RQGs. We select ~250 RQGs over various stellar masses and environments, then separate them by quenching timescale. Our RQG candidate selection method is preliminaries confirmed by DEIMOS and LEGA-C spectra. As PFS is coming into work soon, its large FOV can significantly improve observation efficiency and enable a further spectroscopic study of our current RQG sample.
