Oral Presentation
The challenge of fitting galaxy continuum spectra
Presenter: Po-Feng Wu (National Taiwan University)
Recovering the formation histories and the stellar metallicities of galaxies by fitting their multi-wavelength photometry and spectra become more and more popular in recent years. The development is largely driven by the available data; deep, wide-field extragalactic photometric and spectroscopic surveys produce new dataset for which the technique can be applied to. The improved data quality and algorithm can in principle lower the statistical uncertainties of the inferred parameters, allowing more precise measurements. However, there are systematic uncertainties that may not be easy to be taken into account and can dominate the error budge. I will discuss the current development and challenges of the analysis of galaxy continuum spectra and future possibilities.
