Cluster Finding in VIPERS DR II via Unsupervised Machine Learning

Author(s): Hai-Xia Ma (Nagoya University), Tsutomu T. Takeuchi (Nagoya University and ISM)

Presenter: Haixia Ma (Division of Particle and Astrophysical Science, Nagoya University)

Clustering is one of the most common exploratory data analysis techniques used to investigate how the dark matter halo mass function evolves with redshift. We applied a variety of galaxy classification methods, such as the most common K-means, Friends-of-Friends (FoF), and Gaussian Mixture Modle (GMM). And we also applied some modified versions of FoF and GMM. We will present the cluster finding results of VIPERS data and compare the results obtained by different methods in terms of both purity and completeness.
