Deep Learning Applications in (Galaxy) Astrophysics (in Korea)
Presenter: Sungwook E. Hong (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute)
Deep learning, or deep neural network, has become a massive name in the industry, culture, and even natural science. However, there has been a debate in astronomical society on whether deep learning can be helpful or proper for solving various types of astronomical problems. In this overview, I will briefly cover the basics of deep learning, its strong and weak points in general, what kinds of astronomical problems would be suitable for deep learning, and what researchers should keep in mind for applying deep learning in their research. I will also briefly introduce some community efforts from the Korean side about deep learning and some noticeable deep learning-based research from the Korean community.
