Feedback, chemistry, and turbulence in the interstellar medium: insights from small-scale simulations.
Presenter: Chia-Yu Hu (Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics)
Large-scale cosmological simulations have been tremendous successful in reproducing realistic galaxy properties in the past decade. However, these simulations rely on phenomenological sub-grid models which are highly uncertain with degenerate free parameters, making their predictabilities often ambiguous. In this talk, I will present high-resolution small-scale simulations that are capable of resolving the interstellar medium with minimal assumptions, and demonstrate how they provide necessary insights for cosmological simulations.
