Oral Presentation

The new SMA Receiver

Author(s): Ming-JYe Wang (ASIAA) wSMA team (ASIAA&SAO)

Presenter: Ming-Jye Wang (ASIAA)

The SMA (Sub-Millimeter Array) is the first interferometer operating at sub-millimeter wavelength since 2003, which is a joint astronomical facility of ASIAA (Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Academia Sinica) and SAO (Smithsonian Astronomical Observatory). The SMA is a powerful instrument and provides excellent spectrum and maps for astronomical research in sub-millimeter wavelength. The receivers of SMA have been operated more than 15 years. We plan to build new receivers for SMA, the wSMA receiver, using cutting-edge technologies. The new SMA cryostat will include two cartridge-type receivers to cover 240GHz and 320GHz bands with dual polarization capability and ultrawide IF (intermediate frequency) bandwidth, ~16 GHz. The overall sensitivity of SMA can be enhanced by 2-3 times. The detail of wSMA receiver will be presented in this talk.
