Invited Presentation
Molecular line observations of galaxies near and far using ALMA Band 1
Presenter: Kotaro Kohno (University of Tokyo)
The Band 1 suite is expected to broaden the science capabilities of ALMA especially for spatially extended sources. In my talk, the emphasis will be placed mainly on (1) spectral line mapping of local galaxies, targeting the important ground-state lines of key molecules such as SiO and CS, and (2) CO(1-0) observations of star-forming galaxies in proto-clusters at z = 1.3 - 2.3. A wider FoV of ALMA Band 1 (than JVLA) will allow us to make an efficient simultaneous CO(1-0) observations of member galaxies in over-dense regions at the peak epoch of the cosmic star formation history, and lessons and learns from JVLA and ALMA observations of some proto-clusters will be discussed, along with other extragalactic science cases for Band 1.
