Oral Presentation
Approaching and counter jet structure of NGC 4261
Presenter: Satomi Nakahara (SOKENDAI (The Graduate University for Advanced Studies)/JAXA)
We investigated the two-sided jet width profile of nearby(~30 Mpc) AGN NGC 4261 at the radial distance ranging of ~10^3 - 10^9 Schwarzschild radii from the central engine using Very Large Array(VLA) and Very Long Baseline Array(VLBA). the jets of NGC 4261 maintain a conical structure in both sides over the range of 10^6 Schwarzschild radius. This result differs from M87’s approaching jet, which shows a transition from parabolic to conical structures at the Bondi radius (Asada & Nakamura 2012). Our result in NGC 4261 may request an additional consideration to theoretical models of jet collimation.
