Particle Acceleration and Polarization Signatures in Magnetically Dominated Regions in Jets

Recent observations of blazars, especially the modeling of polarization signatures during blazar flares, have revealed that the emission regions can be magnetically dominated. We use large-scale relativistic kinetic plasma simulations to investigate the magnetic energy dissipation processes in such environments, including the critical role of current sheets in regulating the energy conversion processes from fluid scale to kinetic scale and the particle acceleration processes via 3D magnetic reconnection. We discuss the implications of these processes for jet/lobe emissions.
