High-Energy Emission and Particle Acceleration in M87 Jet

Author(s): Lukasz Stawarz (Jagiellonian University, Poland)

Presenter: Ɓukasz Stawarz (Jagiellonian University)

In this talk I will discuss the production of high-energy emission in the
M87 jet across different scales, from the jet base up to the jet
termination regions. In particular, I will discuss the production of
synchrotron X-ray emission along the kpc-scale outflow, and speculate on
the underlying particle acceleration processes involved. I will also
discuss the production of high-energy and very high-energy gamma-ray
emission of M87, critically re-examining the model of the flaring HST-1 as
a dominant gamma-ray emission site in the system. Finally, I will comment
on the gamma-ray emission of other low-luminosity radio-loud AGN,
hypothesizing on a possibility for the formation of kpc-scale pair halos
within their host galaxies.
