Task Description and Goals
Cross-correlating the cosmic infrared background (CIB) with cosmic microwave background (CMB) lensing provides a powerful probe of how dusty star-forming galaxies trace large-scale structure. This project measures the CIB–CMB lensing correlation using a foreground-free reconstruction of the 100 μm CIB map (the corrected SFD, or CSFD, map from Chiang 2023) together with CMB lensing data from the South Pole Telescope (SPT). The student will work with CIB and CMB lensing maps, perform cross-correlation measurements in harmonic space, and compare the results to theoretical expectations. The goals of the project are to quantify the CIB–lensing signal, measure the effective CIB bias relative to the matter density field, assess the impact of foreground cleaning, and evaluate the potential for large-scale structure studies.
