Task Description and Goals
The Cosmic Evolution Survey (COSMOS) field is a unique area on the sky to study galaxy formation out to the earliest cosmic time. In this area, countless observing time has been invested across all wavelengths from radio to X-ray to build extremely deep multi-color galaxy catalogs. In this project, we will use a novel clustering technique to infer the 3D locations of galaxies in the filamentary cosmic web in COSMOS. The outcome of the project will be twofold: the student will learn how to perform clustering analysis, one of the most important techniques in observational cosmology; the redshift product will have broad impact in adding to the legacy of COSMOS.
