Isotopes, Earth and the Universe
November 25-26, 2013
Institute of Earth Sciences of Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan

The Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Institute of Earth Sciences of Academia Sinica are jointly holding a 2-day isotope workshop in Taipei, Taiwan, on Nov. 25 and Nov. 26, 2013.

This workshop is held in honor of Prof. Typhoon Lee’s 65th birthday as well as in celebration of the inauguration of the NanoSIMS laboratory in Academia Sinica. In his 40 years of career, Prof. Lee has made significant contributions to the fields of isotope geochemistry and cosmochemistry. Those include demonstrating the former existence of the short-lived 26Al (t1/2 = 0.73 Myr) in the early Solar System, developing irradiation models for the origins of short-lived radionuclides in the solar nebula as well as using isotope techniques to understand crustal evolutions, sources of arc magmas, and paleo-environments. He is also the mastermind behind the acquisition of NanoSIMS in Academia Sinica.

The aim of this meeting is to discuss how isotopic and chemical compositions of natural matters (both terrestrial and extraterrestrial) could help understand their origins, evolutions and past histories. We hope to bring cosmochemists and geochemists together to address the aforementioned issues. We also welcome all local interested universities and research groups to participate.

The workshop will take place at the Institute of Earth Sciences of Academia Sinica. Transportation information can be found under the page of Travel Guide. The workshop registration is free of charge, but we cannot provide financial support for airfares and lodging. A block of rooms have been reserved in the Activity Center of Academia Sinica for participants, and are available on a first come first served basis. The daily rates for standard single and double room are 1650 TWD (~55 USD) and 1900 TWD (~63 USD), respectively. Accommodation in nearby hotels is also possible.

In order to adequately plan for the meeting, interested participants should submit the online registration form before October 31, 2013.
