Seeing Characterization Instruments at CFHT: MKAM, LSI and DIMM

There has been significant interest in characterizing the natural, dome and telescope seeing at the CFHT site since its inception, however it has only been in the last few years that a suite of instruments has been operated in a campaign to determine the source and nature of major contributors of seeing at CFHT. Here we describe the operation of two instruments currently in use at CFHT that have already provided important insight into the seeing effects in the CFHT dome; the Mauna Kea Atmospheric Monitor (MKAM) and the the dome Differential Image Motion Monitor (DIMM), as well as our newest instrument, the Lunar Scintillometer Instrument (LSI), that will provide a relatively high resolution height profile of the ground layer seeing. The information provided by the DIMM and MKAM has already led to a high priority being placed on the implementation of air flow and venting control for the CFHT dome. Instruments such as LSI will be critical in the feasibility and development of potential new instruments such as IMAKA that require detailed information concerning the combined telescope, dome and atmospheric ground layer turbulence.
