'OHANA IKI first fringes, on the way to linking Gemini and CFHT

Author(s): Guy Perrin and the `OHANA team

Presenter: Guy Perrin (Observatoire de Paris / LESIA)

In the summer of 2010, major milestone has been reached for 'OHANA. The two 8-inch telescopes built for the testing of the 'OHANA system were used to obtain first fringes in the J band. This is itself a nice instrumentation results as it demonstrates that deployable telescopes can be used in interferometry to build versatile instruments with the potential to quickly obtain high quality images with a light instrument using a few telescopes. This project, 'OHANA IKI, is a prototype to commission the whole instrument for the use of Gemini and CFHT. These first fringes have validated the delay line installed in the Coudé room, the 300 m-long J band fiber cables and the beamcombiner-detector system. Tests need to be performed with the H and K fibers that will be soon removed from Keck. Once all parts of 'OHANA will have been tested and quasi-routinely used, fringes between Gemini and CFHT will be tried.
