Connecting galaxies and dark matter: watching haloes fill with stars

Author(s): Henry Joy McCracken

Presenter: Henry Joy Mccracken (IAP)

By making some reasonable assumptions concerning how the number of galaxies hosted by a dark matter halo depends on halo mass, it is now possible to make a direct measurement of the mass evolution of dark matter haloes from wide-field clustering observations. In my talk I will show how data from CFHT instruments has enabled measurements of halo mass evolution and stellar mass buildup in the Universe, two key quantities which can provide stringent tests of our models of galaxy formation.
